I will admit from the start that I have no great knowledge of late ninteeth-century British writing; but as a modern reader I found this book to be ludicrous in its tone and many of its conclusions. Don't get me wrong the numbers the author uses, the relations among those numbers, the very strange coincidences of many of these numbers - all are very interesting and worthwhile. But, throughout the book he upholds the British evangelical Anglo-Saxon paradigm as the only God-approved, marginally acceptable one in existence. Only by using the British cubit as a standard of measure do the coincidences of the Pyramid's measurements show up, whereas the cubit of the "godless", "profane", "unholy" Egyptians produces no such startling results. It made me uncomfortable that a man who should be objectively discussing the measurements of an ancient structure could so consistently and pig-headedly uphold his religion and culture, and so consistently condemn every other, even the Greeks and Romans, for no better reason than that they weren't Christian. The numbers make the book worth buying, but the archaic language and ugly chauvinism of sex, race and religion make it tough reading. If you want the same numbers and facts without the stupidity, check out Graham Hancock's "Fingerprints of the Gods" and related works.
